As bodies, we are embedded in our surrounding environments. There is codependency in the formation of each other. We are both fertile spaces that feed off of each other. We can feel how the environmental factors and circumstances affect the development of self: How they inform our identifies. How they create emotional experiences. How they hold and release memory.

We ask ourselves “but what does it mean to be *in* the land?”

Patterns serve as a universal language deeper connecting us to history and the wonders of the natural world.

For this work, I connected both visual patterns and habitual patterns that are formed through time. In life we come across monumental and trivial sites that register our passage—milestones that redirect our course and small events that, when seen from a distance, read like landmarks. We leave fragments of ourselves for the future to find. The interactions and impressions we accumulate map the rhythms of our journeys.

I use pattern as a metaphor for personal discovery. Finding patterns in nature asks the viewer to slow down, to observe, to gather and to interpret. It is an exercise in intentional reflection. There is comfort in the predictability of a pattern once it’s understood.
